Sudoku – a great puzzle that helps develop problem solving strategies.

Have you ever noticed the line ‘no math skills required’ when reading the instructions for Sudoku.

 

Granted one does not need to know the basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication or division to play this game, but solving a Sudoku puzzle does require the use of many problem solving strategies used in Mathematics.  The process of elimination, working backwards, one-to-one correspondence and many other logic skills are developed while having fun with numbers.

 

Try adding fun to your Math activities by solving a Sudoku puzzle each day.  If you are new to Sudoku, start with easy puzzles and work your way up to more difficult ones.  Here is a great online resource.
